Men's Basketball Players of the Week: Feb. 18-24

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Obinna Oleka (State College of Florida), Malcolm Canada (Ellsworth CC, Iowa) and Shane Bosek (Minnesota State CTC) have been named NJCAA men’s basketball players of the week for games Feb. 18-24.

DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Obinna Oleka – State College of Florida
Forward – Washington, D.C. – Florida Christian Institute (Fort Myers, Fla.)

The Manatees picked up a crucial victory last week behind Oleka’s stellar play off the bench. The freshman connected on 13-of-16 shots from the field, compiling a game-high 32 points in a 101-88 win over Hillsborough CC (Fla.). Oleka came close to a triple-double in the game, adding a game-high 17 rebounds and eight assists in the performance. Despite starting only one game this season, Oleka is averaging 10.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Malcolm Canada – Ellsworth Community College, Iowa
Guard – Austin, Texas – Akins High School

Putting his shooting ability on display, Canada propelled the Panthers to two victories last week. In a 68-61 win over Des Moines Area CC (Iowa), Canada racked up a game-high 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds. The sophomore then sunk five 3-pointers and totaled a game-high 31 points in a 73-65 victory over Kirkwood CC (Iowa). Canada is averaging 20.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game in 2012-13, leading the Panthers in all four categories.

DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shane Bosek – Minnesota State Community & Technical College
Forward – Lowry, Minn. – Minnewaska Area High School

Earning player of the week honors for the second time this season, Bosek led the Spartans to two critical victories last week. Bosek began the week with 23 points and eight rebounds as Minnesota State edged St. Cloud TCC (Minn.), 92-91. Against Ridgewater College (Minn.), the sophomore scored a game-high 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Bosek is the Spartans’ leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points per game this season.
