NJCAA Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 2, 2009

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Kervin Bristol of Broward College (Fla.), Ronnie Boggs of Johnson County Community College (Kan.) and Ricardo Ortiz of Passaic County Community College (N.J.) have been named NJCAA Men's Basketball Players of the Week (Games Nov. 24-30).

Bristol earns the Division I honor, Boggs receives the Division II award and Ortiz grabs accolades for Division III.

Bristol, a 6'10" center from Miami, Fla., averaged 14.7 points, 14.3 rebounds and 6.3 blocks in three games at last weekend's Miami-Dade College Turkey Classic. In Friday's opener against IMG Academy, he scored 13 points with 10 rebounds and six blocks. On Saturday he posted 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks against Iowa Western. He saved his best performance for Sunday's finale against Hillsborough, recording a triple-double of 21 points, 21 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Boggs, a 6'3" guard from Grandview, Mo., averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in leading the defending national champion Johnson County Cavaliers to a pair of wins last weekend. The freshman shot 60 percent from the field in the three games. In a 97-61 win over St. Louis-Forest Park, Boggs scored 15 points with five rebounds and three assists. He followed that performance with a season high 31 points in a 111-65 victory over Graceland University's JV team. He connected on 13 of 18 field goal attempts, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and also contributed eight rebounds, six assists and three steals in the win. He currently leads JCCC in both scoring (20.1) and rebounding (8.1).

Passaic County's Ricardo Ortiz, a 5'4" guard from Passaic, N.J., scored 19 points in the first half in PCCC's 103-93 win over North Hampton on Nov. 24. He finished the game with 24 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals. Ortiz shot 88 percent from the field in the contest making 8-of-9 attempts, including 4-of-5 attempts from behind the three-point line.
