REGION 14
Region 14 spans across East Texas and a small portion of Northwest Louisiana servicing 21 colleges. The region is led by Tim Drain (women's director) and Roark Montgomery (men's director) and are assisted by Shawn Silman (women's assistant) and Don Clinton (men's assistant).
A closer look at Roark Montgomery – Region 14 Men’s Director
Roark Montgomery, III joined the Navarro (TX) staff in 1988 as golf coach and recorded five Region 14 championships. He was voted coach of the year in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1997, and 1998 His team amassed six top 10 finishes in 10 appearances at the NJCAA National Championships. He became Athletic Director in 1998 and currently serves on the President's Executive Leadership Team.
Montgomery lettered in golf at East Texas State University from 1972-1976. He went on to earn a Master of Sports Administration Degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. He served as the head golf professional at the Galveston Country Club from 1977 to 1987. Montgomery is beginning his tenth year as the Men's Region Director of NJCAA Region 14. He also serves as the chair of the football committee and is a member of the Division I baseball, golf, and tennis committees.
When he is not working, Roark enjoys spending his downtime golfing and fishing.
A closer look at Tim Drain – Region 14 Women’s Director
Dr. Tim Drain is now in his 19th year in athletic administration at Tyler (TX) and his 16th as the program’s athletic director. Tyler has garnered a total of 58 NJCAA National Championships since 1946, which ranks second in the history of NJCAA (as of November 2017) - 31 have come under Drain’s tenure, with 26 of them as athletic director. Since 2011, TJC athletic programs have finished second three times and third twice in the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup Standings.
Drain has served as the NJCAA Region 14 Women’s Director since 2001. He is the chair of both the Service and Recognition and Women’s Tennis committees for the NJCAA. He is also a voting member in the football, women’s basketball, softball, and women’s soccer national polls and has been the tournament director for 23 NJCAA National Championships, including men’s and women’s soccer (12), baseball (8), and women’s tennis (3). In 2017, Tim’s peers elected him to the NJCAA Executive Committee.
Tim has also served as the President of NATYCAA in 2014-15. He was selected in 2016 to represent NATYCAA on the NCAA Two-Year College Relations Panel and the American Association of Community College Coalition of Affiliated Councils (COAC). In 2010 he was awarded the George E. Killian Award of Excellence from the NJCAA. He was inducted into the NJCAA Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame in 2013 for his contributions to the sport. He has twice been honored as an Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year in 2012 and 2015, and will receive the award once again in June.
Dr. Drain is married to Holly, his wife of 24 years. They have two children, Peyton (19) and Nathan (17). Peyton attends Texas A&M majoring in Sports Management, while Nathan is a junior in high school.
