For more than two decades, Jamie Howell has shaped a culture of excellence and consistency within the Eastern Florida State College men's golf program. Now in his 23rd season with the Titans, Howell has built one of the premier programs in NJCAA golf. The team has recorded 55 tournament victories and produced 25 NJCAA All-Americans and three individual national champions. Under Howell's leadership, the Titans have consistently competed at the highest level, qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament in every season during his tenure and achieving top finishes that include a national runner-up result and two third-place finishes.
Howell's excellence has been recognized with numerous coaching honors. He was named the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year in 2015 and was a finalist for the award in 2016. He has also earned NJCAA District Coach of the Year honors nine times throughout his career, reflecting sustained success and respect among his peers. Howell also received the Labron Harris Sr. Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America in cooperation with The PGA of America. The Harris Award is presented to the college or high school coach and Class A PGA Professional whose support of the game through teaching, coaching and involvement in the community has helped ensure the continued growth of the game of golf and who represents the finest qualities the game has to offer.
In 2019, Howell was inducted into the NJCAA Men's Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame, recognizing his long-standing impact on the sport and the association. His contributions extend beyond competition, having served as President of the NJCAA Golf Coaches Association and playing a key role in shaping the direction of the sport at the junior college level.
Academically, Howell's programs have also excelled. His 2006-07 team was named the Florida Community College Activities Association Male Academic Team of the Year, and he has helped 77 student-athletes graduate and transfer to four-year institutions.
Before his coaching career, Howell competed professionally on the PGA European Tour from 1988 to 1990, bringing high-level playing experience into his coaching philosophy.
Through more than two decades of leadership, Coach Howell has established a legacy defined by competitive achievement, academic success, and lasting impact on student-athletes and NJCAA golf.
