With more than two decades of experience in athletics, including 13 years as Athletic Director, Stubbs has played a key role in shaping a program that balances competitive excellence with academic achievement and personal growth.
In his leadership role, Stubbs oversees the department's strategic direction, daily operations, and long-term program development. He has ensured that athletics remains closely aligned with the institution's academic mission while continuing to expand opportunities for student-athletes. Alongside his administrative duties, Stubbs has served as head men's basketball coach since 2005, where he has consistently emphasized discipline, accountability, and character development.
Emory Oxford student-athletes have experienced notable success in the classroom under Stubbs' leadership. In 2025, the department posted an average GPA of 3.71. During Stubbs' tenure, Oxford has had more than 420 NJCAA All-Academic selections and over 230 NJCAA All-America honorees. This sustained academic performance reflects his commitment to preparing student-athletes for success beyond their collegiate careers.
Stubbs' impact can also be seen in the program's competitive achievements. Under his leadership, Emory Oxford teams have secured 21 national championships along with more than a dozen conference titles. He has also guided the continued growth of the department by expanding athletic opportunities, increasing participation, and strengthening the program's overall presence.

Through camps, clinics, and service initiatives, student-athletes are encouraged to engage beyond campus, creating meaningful relationships and reinforcing the role of athletics as a community partner.
His leadership extends beyond Oxford, as he remains active in broader athletics initiatives and professional development efforts. Through collaboration and continued engagement, Stubbs contributes to the advancement of collegiate athletics while strengthening his own department's approach.
"Rod leads with calm confidence, integrity, and a focus on student development," Amanda Yu-Nguyen, Director, Center for Healthful Living at Emory Oxford, said.
