NJCAA announces two recipients for the 2020 Appreciation Award

Norma Carr - Salt Lake Community College (UT)
A longtime athletic director at Salt Lake Community College, Norma Carr led initiatives towards new athletic facilities and athletic programs in her 25 years. As the first female to oversee an intercollegiate athletics program in the state of Utah, Carr's onset visions paved the way for numerous female athletic directors and coaches.
"Norma Carr is now and always will be synonymous with Salt Lake Community College. Her contribution to the college, its coaches and players cannot be overstated," stated Kevin Dustin, Current Salt Lake Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Sports was Norma's calling and we are so glad that SLCC continues to benefit from her long shadow to this day."
Notable contributions to the NJCAA include serving as NJCAA Region XVIII Women's Director and NJCAA DI Softball Committee chair from 2002 until 2014. Carr's valued contributions to the NJCAA have added improvements and consistency to the rankings and All-America selections in volleyball, women's basketball and softball.
Dr. Jack Cistriano - Chesapeake College (MD)
A pioneer of the NJCAA and mentor to many, Dr. Jack Cistriano devoted 32 years of service to the association. Dr. Cistriano's involvement and support at the community college level reflects in his previous roles as Assistant Director of Region XX and Region XX Director, a position he held until 2004.
"Dr. Jack, as he is known to many, was one of my mentors when I started in the NJCAA in 1994," stated Brian Beck, NJCAA Vice President and Chief Eligibility & Compliance Officer. "Following his lead, he provided me and many others with a solid foundation to continue our careers in the NJCAA and other areas."
Dr. Cistriano served as chairperson for numerous NJCAA Sports Committees including swimming and diving, lacrosse, bowling, and Division II basketball. Notable NJCAA recognitions that bears his name include NJCAA Certificate of Outstanding Service, Division II Basketball "Best Small Man Award," Swimming and Diving Coaches Appreciation Award, and Maryland Juco Sportsmanship Award.
