Iowa Western’s Anchante receives top DI honor
Charlotte, NC – Iowa Western setter Yadhira Anchante has been named the 2020-21 NJCAA Division I Volleyball Player of the Year, presented by the Marines.
Anchante led the nation throughout the season with 10.95 assists per set and ranked among the top ten in the nation with 887 total assists. The setter also recorded 53 total blocks, 204 digs, and a .336 hitting percentage.
In her freshman campaign, Anchante led the Reivers to a 26-3 record and a national championship title, marking the second volleyball national title in program history and the Reivers' first title since 2006. The 6-foot setter was named the Dorothy L. Brown Most Valuable Player of the national tournament, recording 51 assists and 11 digs with three blocks in the championship match.
In addition to earning tournament MVP, Anchante was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Year, earned First Team NJCAA All-America honors and First Team All-Region honors.
