CCBC Essex’s Gigi Gamble Named 2024-25 NJCAA DII Women’s Basketball Player of the Year
Charlotte, N.C. – Gigi Gamble, a guard from CCBC Essex, has been selected as the 2024-25 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Gamble posted stellar numbers all season and broke multiple tournament records at the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Championship in Joplin, Missouri.
"I have truly been blessed to coach some amazing student athletes in my tenure here at CCBC Essex, including numerous All Americans. Gigi Gamble is up there as one of the best to ever come from our program," CCBC Essex Head Coach Mike Seney shared. "She is undoubtedly one of the most talented players I've ever coached but most importantly she is one of the best people anyone can ever meet; a true teammate through thick and thin and a wonderful person to have a part of our circle. Gigi broke a ton of records on the court this year that will live on in history, but who she is every single day as a person is really the part we will miss the most!"
After a thriller in the semifinal, the Knights earned a third-place finish at the national tournament. In the 112-115 overtime loss to Pima, Gamble broke the championship record for most three-pointers made in a game with 10. Her 53 points against the Aztecs were just one shy of the tournament record for an individual's most points scored in a single game at the championship. Gamble finished the week with two more records: most two-point baskets made in three games (39) and most points scored in the tournament (117).
Gamble's efforts throughout the season set new records for CCBC Essex, too. She is now the program leader for single-season points per game, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage. Gamble also scored the second-most three-pointers (98), third-most total points (703), and the fourth-most made field goals (484).
