DIII outdoor track & field championships cancelled
Charlotte, NC - The NJCAA has announced the cancellation of the 2021 NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for May 7-8 at Thomas Edison Park in Edison, NJ. The cancellation comes as a result of low participation numbers and team travel concerns.
NJCAA DIII men's and women's track and field teams who still wish to compete in a national championship this year are invited to compete at the NJCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships, scheduled for May 11-13 at South Plains College in Levelland, TX. The DIII qualification process will remain the same as announced by the NJCAA on March 31.
The NJCAA will not enforce qualifying standards or white cards for DIII teams participating in the DI championships. The meet will limit DIII teams to two student-athlete entries per event. However, if a student-athlete is ranked in the top-10 in their respective event on DirectAthletics as of two Mondays prior to the start of the 2021 NJCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, an additional DIII student-athlete may be entered up to a maximum of three entries per event.
DIII student-athletes will be seeded and heated with DI entries. There will be no separate flights or heats for DIII-only competitors, however DIII student-athletes will have a separate entry site via DirectAthletics from the DI entry site.
Additional information and specifications will be made available early next week.
Note: Qualification standards will be enforced to qualify for the national meet in 2022 which is slated for May 12-14 at the Hudson Valley Outdoor Athletic Complex in Troy, NY.
