Damarco Minor named DII Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC - South Suburban (IL) freshman guard Damarco Minor has been named the 2021-22 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
Minor was a crucial part of the Bulldogs' championship run, leading the team in scoring with 20.8 points per game, while also averaging 5.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. The freshman scored at least 27+ points eight times during the season, including two 30+ point performances.
He ranked in the top-10 in numerous statistical categories, including steals (2nd, 112), points (3rd, 666), FT Made (8th, 142), and assists (8th, 181).
During the national championship, the freshman guard averaged 20.75 points and 7.0 assists per game, capped off with a 29-point, 8-assist performance in the championship game against Davidson-Davie.
"I am extremely happy for Damarco. He led his team to a historic season and deserves this award. He epitomizes what a student-athlete should be on the court and in the classroom. This award validates the work he put into this season. He has a bright future and I am looking forward to what is next for him" said South Suburban's head coach John Pigatti.
Damarco Minor is the fifth player of the year to hail from South Suburban in the last 10 years, including the third consecutive season in which Pigatti produced a player of the year.
