Jackson Owen named DII Defensive Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC - Northeast Mississippi's catcher Jackson Owen has been named the 2022 NJCAA Division II Baseball Defensive Player of the Year.
The MACCC honorable mention recipient takes home the award after an impressive season behind the plate, posting a .991 fielding percentage while catching 15 players stealing on the season.
"He's just a tremendous person. I can't say that enough about him" said head coach Richy Harrelson. "He's a high quality person. He's high character and integrity. He's a great player and student. I'm just pumped for the guy. Most people don't see the extra stuff he does to become a better player. He's always one of the first guys at practice. The coolest thing to me about Jackson Owen is that he's so good behind the plate that you never notice him. He steals strikes, keeps the ball in front of him, back picks and when runners steal he throws them out. I can't tell you how hard he works."
Owen earned an NJCAA Division II Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award which was the first in Northeast Mississippi's program history.
