Trailblazers garner 50th straight home win
December 20, 2013
The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team dismantled visiting Kennedy-King 95-45 Thursday night to improve to 11-1 on the season and grab the program’s 50th consecutive home victory on the VU P.E. Complex floor. In addition, the win was VU’s 1,601st of all time.
The win also closed out the 2013 portion of the 2013-14 schedule.
NJCAA No. 9 VU got 15 points from sophomore Paris Burns to lead a balanced scoring attack that saw everyone who played score and also included 14 points each by sophomore Devin Foster and freshman Charles Foster, as well as 10 by freshman Everett Clemons. Charles Foster had three of the Trailblazers’ 11 treys. Burns knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and freshmen Stuart Jackson, AJ Patty and Mychal Mulder each had one from beyond the arc.
VU also turned in a 22-for-26 performance at the free throw line. Kennedy-King was 16-for-24 at the stripe.
Freshman Marc Seylan had all 14 of his points in the second half to pace the Statesmen (7-6).
VU started quickly and scored 25 points in the opening minutes of the game, then stalled somewhat offensively before getting back in sync to lead 46-18 at the half. After the midway point, the Trailblazers nearly doubled Kennedy-King’s second half production, 49-27, to cruise to the victory.
The Trailblazers are now idle until Jan. 3 when they host Daley College in a 7 p.m. game at the VU P.E. Complex. VU will then head to Lincoln Trail in Robinson, IL, on Jan. 6 for an 8 p.m. contest that was rescheduled from Dec. 7 when inclement weather forced it to be postponed. On Jan. 8, the Trailblazers will take on Wabash Valley in another 7 p.m. tip-off at the VU P.E. Complex.
