Trailblazers notch season's 10th victory with 108-85 win over Sinclair
 December 17, 2013

Gerring leads 6 players in double figures for VU

The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team shook off some rust from two weeks of non-game activity and battled through a slow start to post a 108-85 offensive shootout of a win over Sinclair Monday night at the VU P.E. Complex.

Sophomore forward Loomis Gerring scored 18 points to lead VU. Sophomore Devin Foster and freshman Charles Foster both finished with 17, while freshman Mychal Mulder scored 12. Sophomore Willie Wiley and freshman Everett Clemons added 10 each for the Trailblazers (10-1).

Sinclair sophomore forward Trace Cureton exploded for a game-high 32. He had 18 in the first half for the Tartan Pride (10-2).

The NJCAA Div. I 11th-ranked Trailblazers fell behind the NJCAA Div. II No. 6 Tartan Pride and trailed throughout most of the initial 10 minutes before clawing in front, 25-24, and then outscoring Sinclair 34-17 the rest of the half. As a result, VU held a 59-41 advantage at intermission. The Trailblazers then maintained the lead over the final 20 minutes for the victory.

The margin of victory could have been greater, but Sinclair benefitted from 30-for-37 shooting at the free throw line. Parr was 14-for-17 and Cureton was 7-for-8 at the stripe. VU’s 18-for-17 free throw shooting included Gerring hitting 8 of 11 from the line.

Devin Foster had a pair of treys in each half as part of his offensive production. Charles Foster added a 3-pointer in each half as part of VU’s eight field goals from beyond the arc.

VU will close out the 2013 portion of its 2013-14 schedule with Thursday’s game vs. Kennedy-King at the VU P.E. Complex. That game is also set to tip off at 7 p.m. Following the holiday break, the Trailblazers will resume the season on Jan. 3 by hosting Daley at 7 p.m. and then heading to Lincoln Trail in Robinson, IL, on Jan. 6 for an 8 p.m. contest that was rescheduled from Dec. 7 when inclement weather forced it to be postponed. The postponed date contributed to the Trailblazers' recent two-week span between games.
