Sophomore Night is a thriller for Trailblazers
The Vincennes University Volleyball Team fought back from being down two sets to win a five-set thriller over Lake Land Tuesday night at the VU P.E. Complex.
After dropping the first two sets by 19-25 and 21-25 scores, the short-handed Trailblazers (26-14) won the final three sets 25-18, 25-22, 15-6, to snatch away the victory and make a winning effort of the Sophomore Night festivities that honored players Kiara Cruz, India Cuttino, Kinzi Kiefer and Kristen Murphy, as well as student-managers Abby Hasewinkel and Jennifer Hodson. VU was playing without injured regular starters Ariana Kuhn and Becca Garrison.
The match was also VU’s final home date of the 2013 season.
Freshman Megan Kelsay had a double-double with 31 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Casie Divine also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Emily Murphy chipped in with nine kills. As a team, the Trailblazers finished with 20 assisted blocks.
VU will head to the John A. Logan Tri-Match on Oct. 26 and 27 in Carterville, IL, then finish out the regular season at Kaskaskia on October 29 in Centralia, IL. The NJCAA Region 12 Tournament will be Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in Grand Rapids, MI.
