WNCC softball beats Odessa behind two home runs by Duran

7th-ranked Lady Bobcats notch two impressive victories

ELLISVILLE – The 7th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats rolled to a pair of impressive victories here Saturday in the Gwen Magee Invitational.

JCJC started the day with a 9-0, five-inning victory over Pensacola State College (Fla.). The Lady Bobcats ended the evening with a 20-1, four-inning whipping of Mississippi Delta Community College. The game was officially called because of a time limit.

In the other tournament games, Co-Lin defeated Pensacola 10-7 and MDCC, 5-1.

The Lady Bobcats, 4-0, will travel to Meridian Community College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Monday and to Holmes Community College for a 3 p.m. twinbill on Tuesday.

Lady Bobcats 9, Pirates 0

Michele Hester retired the first 11 batters she faced as she improved to 2-0 on the season. Hester ended up allowing two hits and one walk.

JCJC scored three runs in the first inning when Relanda McFarland led off with a bunt single. Alex Barrett followed with a single and Brooke David’s fielder’s choice scored McFarland. Makenzie Hawkins then delivered a two-run double.

The Lady Bobcats made it 6-0 in the third when Alex Barrett doubled and David drove her in with a single. Karley Crosby then singled and Hawkins again had a two-run double.

JCJC finished the scoring in the fourth. Alex Barrett led off with a single, Bethany Volking walked and David singled. Hawkins drove in her fifth run of the game with a groundout and Reagan Gavin then had a two-run single.

Alex Barrett had two singles and a double, while Hawkins doubled, singled and had the five RBIs. Gavin, David and Crosby had two singles each, while McFarland had one single.

Cierra Miller started, went three innings and took the loss. She gave up six runs, nine hits and struck out one. Elise Richardson pitched one inning, gave up three runs and three hits.

Shawna Montgomery and Becca Calloway each singled for the Pirates.

Lady Bobcats 20, MDCC 1

Karley Crosby slugged a pair of two-run home runs and had five RBIs as the Lady Bobcats cruised in the nightcap.

The first six batters of the game reached and scored for the Lady Bobcats. In the second inning, JCJC sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs.

Crosby had a two-run homer in the first, another in the second and an RBI single in the third.

Bethany Volking had three singles and a double, while Reagan Gavin had a double and two singles. Alex Barrett had three singles and three RBIs, while Keni May and Brittney McBrain had two singles each. Makenzie Hawkins and Andi Barrett added singles.

Dana Arender, 1-0, started and got the win. She allowed two hits and struck out four in two innings. Samantha Buller went the final two innings, allowed no hits and struck out four.

Ashley Langford doubled and scored for MDCC in the second, while Kacy Beavers doubled in the first.

Taylor Peden was the starter and loser for the Lady Trojans.
