East Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast Are Preseason Favorites in the Mississippi Gridiron Coaches' Polls
 August 6, 2013

East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College are the preseason favorites in the MACJC North and South Divisions according to MACJC coaches. In our preseason poll of MACJC coaches, the coaches picked East Mississippi  and Mississippi Gulf Coast as the favorites to meet in the MACJC State Championship game.

Gulf Coast enters this season as the nation’s preseason #1 team in the JCGridiron Dirty Thirty. D’haquille Williams could be the nation’s top junior college wide receiver after catching 67 passes for 1,295 yards and 17 TD’s last year. The Bulldog secondary has also received preseason praise as one of the nation’s best. Head coach Steve Campbell has led Gulf Coast to the MACJC title game in six consecutive seasons, and has seven former players currently active in the NFL.

East Mississippi enters the season ranked #6 in the nation in the JCGridiron Dirty Thirty. Head coach Buddy Stephens led his team to an 8-2 season a year ago after winning the junior college National Championship in 2011. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed signed with Florida last season but returned for his final year at East MS. Former Southaven standout Avery Gennesy is one of the nation’s top junior college offensive tackles.
