Goods claims Spalding® DII Player of the Year honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Piloting the Eagles of Kirkwood (IA) to its seventh national championship, Simone Goods was honored Friday with the 2017 Spalding® NJCAA DII Women’s Player of the Year Award from the association’s DII women’s basketball committee.

The Omaha, Nebraska, native was Kirkwood’s top performer this season, which resulted in a school-record 37-0 undefeated record. Following an impressive showing in the Region 11 playoffs, Goods shined at the DII national tournament in Harrison (AR). In her four national tournament contests, she averaged 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

Perhaps her best outing of the season came in the national championship game against No. 2 Johnson County (KS) where she led all players with 19 points and 17 rebounds and also recorded three blocked shots. Her dominance throughout the tournament led to her being named tournament MVP.

For the season, Goods averaged 16.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest. She also shot 67.9 percent from the field, which was the best mark in the Division II ranks.

In 19 games contests this season, Goods shot an impressive 70 percent or better. Her consistency was on display nearly every outing as she surpassed 60 percent or higher in field goal percentage in 27 of Kirkwood’s 37 games.

Goods reached double-figures in scoring in all but three games this season and posted 10 double-doubles on the season.
