NJCAA National Indoor Championships come to close in Lubbock



South Plains College locks up the men's title while Essex CC takes the women's crown


The NJCAA National Indoor Championships wrapped up Saturday with West Texas' South Plains College coming out on top in the men's competition with a team total 148.5 points. On the women's side Essex CC claimed the top spot compiling 138 total points.

In the 200m dash freshman Teddy Poole of Hutchinson College claimed victory recording a time of 21.40. For the women, Allison George of Essex CC took the 200m with a time of 24.42, her second win of the day after also taking first in the 55m dash with a time of 7.02.

The men's 55m championship went to Julias Walker of Coffeyville CC with a time of 6.30.

In 400m action freshman Dwight Mullings of Essex CC edged out the competition and took the top spot with a time of 47.33. For the women, Trudane Clarke of New Mexico JC helped put an end to the Essex CC dominance of the sprint portions of the meet by recording a time of 56.79.

The 1 Mile Run was tight competition on the men's side with John Kosgei emerging as the victor with a time of 4:10.35. The women's 1 Mile winner came from Betty Rotich of Colby CC with a time of 5:10.19.

The triple jump was a South Plains clean sweep with Derrick Reescano taking the men's title with a distance of 15.19m and the women's champion was Asiya Iskakova with a distance of 12.19m.
