PLANO, TX – ASA Miami’s (FL) Tin Chen and Kentaro Mizushima edged Tyler’s (TX) Alejandro Hayen and Jorge Martinez 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in flight two doubles championship to help the Silver Storm win the 2017 NJCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship and repeat as champions.
The Silver Storm as a unit finished the tournament at the Collin County Tennis Facilities in Plano, Texas, with 44 points, while the Apaches fell a point short, finishing with 43 points as a team. The national championship marks the third in ASA Miami’s athletic department's history.
- ASA Miami made its presence felt in singles competition as Chen, Mizushima and Eric Ahren Moonga won flights four, five and six, respectively.
- Moonga and Oliver Koeng for the Silver Storm collected a doubles championship as well, winning flight three.
- Tyler’s Ferran Calvo and Enrique Pardo took home a doubles title paired together and along with winning singles.
- Yohan Ngyuen of Abraham Baldwin defeated top seed Jorge Martinez of Tyler in flight two to earn the crown.
