Gloucester Takes DIII Women's Cross Country National Title

DEHLI, N.Y. -- The Gloucester County College (N.J.) women's cross country team raced to the NJCAA Division III Championship Saturday in Delhi, N.Y. The national championship is the second in the program's history and first since 2006.

Rejeena Whittington led the Road Runner contingent with a third place finish. She led the pack through the 5k course with a time of 20:54. Nieemah Powers was sixth (21:01), Catherine Dougherty came in seventh (21:08), Aimee Abott finished 23rd (22:22) and Lyndsey Fraser was the fifth Road Runner to cross the finish line, coming in 27th (22:1).

Gloucester scored 44 points on the day followed by Mohawk Valley Community College’s (N.Y.) 66. Defending champion Alfred State College (N.Y.) was third in the team standings with 91 points. There were 12 full teams that competed in the race and 100 student-athletes crossed the finish line. This year’s national championship meet was hosted by SUNY Delhi.

Samantha Farina (bottom right picture) of Ocean County College (N.J.) won the individual national title, crossing the finish line first with a time of 20:37. Farina is the second Ocean runner in NJCAA history to win the DIII women’s crown (Jen Nelson – 2009). Claudia Davila of Joliet Junior College (Ill.) was the runner-up (20:52).
