 September 5, 2012

PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College Volleyball Head Coach, Sharon Nelson, notched her 300th career win with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-15) win over Dodge City Community College at the Iowa Western Invitational in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Aug. 25.

“I am so blessed to be part of this historic milestone with San Jac volleyball,” said Nelson. “These wins are dedicated to all who have contributed and supported this program throughout the years. It has taken all their efforts to build and maintain such a successful program.”

Nelson is in her 11th season at the helm of the San Jacinto College volleyball program. Entering the season, she ranked ninth in wins among active National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I coaches. In 2010, she led San Jacinto College to the national runner-up, and earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Southwest Region Two-Year Coach of the Year. Nelson has been named the Region XIV coach of the year for the last seven years.

“The ladies played very solid at the tournament,” noted Nelson on the opening weekend tournament in Iowa. “Many different players stepped up each time we played and created a well-rounded team with versatility. They are a fun energetic group of athletes and we are looking forward to the season progressing.”

Fifth-ranked San Jacinto College (10-1) will face Temple College tonight at 6 p.m. in Temple. The first home match of the season for San Jacinto College is Sept. 13 against Panola College at the San Jacinto College Classic.
