After 32 years, Neighbors stepping down as track coach at Glendale CC

When he served as Glendale Community College Gauchos track coach during his 32-year tenure, Ralph Neighbors was a fountain of track information. Funny thing, since he retired, people still point to him as a fountain of track information.

Even as he was having lunch two weeks ago, he was on the phone asking for and being asked about team and individual results from the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association Outdoor Championships from mid-May in South Plains, Texas.

Neighbors had thought about retirement last August and kept it to himself and GCC athletic director Dave Grant.

“There was no particular reason,” Neighbors said. “Thirty-two years is long enough and it’s been great. I just wish we could have done a better job, but our coaching staff is very, very good.”
