Former NJCAA MBB Player Lester Hudson Joins Grizzlies After Stellar Three Weeks with Cavs
April 23, 2012Former Southwest Tennessee Community College guard Lester Hudson is fresh off two 10-day contracts with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now he's suiting up a second time with the Grizzlies. "He told me, 'We might see each other in the future, you never know ... you belong in this league, just keep working,'" Hudson recalled. "I thought he was being nice to me." But Hudson did keep working. And now, he's back with the Grizzlies after a couple of short runs with the Washington Wizards, two seasons in China, a cameo NBDL appearance and a sizzling three weeks for the Cleveland Cavaliers, tonight's opponent in FedExForum for the playoff-bound Griz. After Hudson averaged 12.7 points in 13 games for the Cavs during two 10-day contract periods, Cleveland chose not to offer him anything guaranteed for next year. That's why last Thursday, sitting in his Cleveland hotel room where he was temporarily living, he said he was "amazed" when his agent called his cell phone and told him the Grizzlies wanted the former Central High product to come home ... again. "I immediately called my girlfriend and sister, and I had them guess which team wanted to sign me," Hudson said. "Both of them said 'Grizzlies' on their first guess." Hudson had a tough outing in his first game back with the Grizzlies on Saturday night. He was scoreless in 4:31 of play late in a 93-89 victory over Portland, missing all three of his shot attempts. He may have been a bit nervous. Because the Grizzlies played at Charlotte on Friday night and didn't have a Saturday shootaround, he hadn't had a chance to join the team until a couple of hours before tipoff against the Trail Blazers. |
