Bobcat tennis teams whip Hinds

RAYMOND – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams were successful in their first matches in over two weeks.

The Lady Bobcats won 9-0, while the men were victorious 8-1 here Wednesday afternoon against Hinds Community College.

The Lady Bobcats are now 4-0, while the JCJC men are 3-1.

The Bobcats travel to Meridian for a 2 p.m. on Thursday and will host Co-Lin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Hinds goes to Northwest on Saturday.

Lady Bobcats 9, Lady Eagles 0

Anna Ready and Jenna Hegwood defeated Brittany DeCamp and Kelly Carlson, 8-1, in No. 1 doubles. Brenda Hegwood and Brooke Martin beat Jenneast Lofton and Reagan Chisolm, 8-6, in No. 2 doubles. Elizabeth Wright and Krissy Stutts downed Jessica Parker and Haley Hicks, 8-3, in No. 3 doubles.

Ready beat DeCamp, 6-0, 4-1 (retired) in No. 1 singles, Jenna Hegwood downed Carlson, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 singles and Brenda Hegwood downed Lofton, 6-0, 6-2, in No. 3 singles. Stutts beat Parker, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 4 singles, Wright defeated Chisolm, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 5 singles and Martin whipped Cayla Fox, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 6 singles.

Bobcats 8, Eagles 1

JCJC’s Eric Swisher and Ryan Young beat Julian Johnson and Melvin McNair, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles and Josiah Lim and Robert Kiewit whipped Austin Pevey and A.J. Walker, 8-1, in No. 3 doubles. In No. 1 doubles, Hinds’ Devonte Thomas and Aaron Gray edged JCJC’s Graham Lightsey and Harrison Thomas, 8-6.

Lightsey defeated Thomas, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 1 singles, Swisher downed Gray, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 2 singles and Lim whipped Johnson, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 3 singles.

Young downed Pevey, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 4 singles, Kiewit whipped Jonathan Bethea, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles and Caleb Byrd defeated McNair, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 6 singles.
