No. 10 Senators rout Tennessee Wesleyan, 16-4

ATHENS, Tenn. – The 10th ranked Walters State Senators made quick work of their road game Wednesday afternoon, as they scored in seven of the nine innings on their way to a 16-4 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan JV.

The Senators had 10 players record a hit in a 16-hit attack, and four players drove in multiple runs with eight players total having an RBI. WSCC led 5-0 and added eight runs in the fifth inning to blow open the game.

With the win, Walters State is now 23-7 on the year, and they have won 15 of their last 17 games.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-6 with the loss.

Jake Farr had a monster game for the Senators with three hits and a double with five RBIs, while Dathan Prewett got back on track with a 3-hit game. Prewett also drove in a run and scored each of the five times he reached base.

Ross Grosvenor and Jason Costa both added two hits, with Costa and Taylor Martin both driving in a pair of runs for WSCC. Martin also clubbed his third home run of the season and Costa had a double in the win.

Austin Norrell had a double and plated two runs, and Austin Taylor belted a triple. Elijah Sutherland, Brycen Roberts and James Fowlkes all added an RBI for the Senators.

Walters State had eight pitchers combine to allow just six hits, and they carried a shutout into the ninth inning.

Jake Usher, Matt Pope, Colton Provey, Grant Painter, Campbell Scholl, Andrew Towns and Will Carter all worked scoreless innings, while Reed Hayes allowed four earned runs on two hits with five walks in the ninth frame.

The Senators also had nine stolen bases in the win, with Prewett and Sutherland swiping three bags each. Farr, Fowlkes and Martin each stole a base for WSCC.

The Senators will be back in action Friday when they travel to Harriman to begin a three-game TCCAA road series at Roane State.
