VU Volleyball drops pair of matches

Trailblazers involved in another five-set marathon
The Vincennes University Volleyball Team dropped both of its matches as it closed out its Showdown At The Wabash Saturday at the VU P.E. Complex.
The Trailblazers (17-13) were shut out in straight sets by Illinois Central by scores of 19-25, 22-25, 21-25. VU then battled Kaskaskia in a back-and-forth five-set match that the Blue Angels wrapped up with a 15-11 victory in the final set. Overall, the scores for VU against Kaskaskia were 18-25, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22, 15-11.
In the match vs. Illinois Central, sophomore Kristen Murphy had 11 kills, while freshman Becca Garrison recorded 13 digs and freshman Megan Kelsay finished with 11 digs.
Against Kaskaskia, Kelsay had a double-double with 34 assists and 25 digs. Garrison had 28 digs and freshman Emily Murphy had 14 kills.
The Trailblazers will now go on the road to Danville Area for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday, then travel to tournaments at Southeastern in West Burlington, IA, and at Wallace State in Hanceville, AL.
VU will close out the home portion of its 2013 schedule on Oct. 22 with Sophomore Night vs. Lake Land at the VU P.E. Complex. On that evening, the Trailblazers will honor sophomores Kiara Cruz, India Cuttino, Kinzi Kiefer and Kristen Murphy. Sophomore Night recognition will begin at 7 p.m. and the match will start immediately afterward.
