VU Volleyball holds on for win

Trailblazers go 5 sets vs. Wallace State

The Vincennes University Volleyball Team gutted out a five-set victory Thursday night over Wallace State-Hanceville at the VU P.E. Complex by posting a 25-12, 25-20, 25-27, 22-25, 15-11 win.

The Trailblazers were led by freshman Megan Kelsay’s double-double of 48 assists and 13 digs. Also leading the VU attack were sophomore Kristen Murphy’s 15 kills, freshman Emily Murphy’s 14 kills and sophomore Kiara Cruz’s 12.

Freshman Becca Garrison contributed 23 digs, while freshman Lindsey Laporga had 10 digs.

As a team, the Trailblazers recorded 21 assisted blocks.

VU will host the Showdown At The Wabash Friday and Saturday at the VU P.E. Complex. The event begins at 12 p.m. Noon Friday and continues Saturday. Besides the Trailblazers, the Showdown At The Wabash features Illinois Central, Kaskaskia, Owens, Parkland and Wallace State.

The Trailblazers will face Parkland at about 1:45 p.m. Friday and return to the floor to take on Owens at 7 p.m. Friday night. On Saturday, action begins at 8 a.m. The Trailblazers will go up against Illinois Central at 3 p.m. and then play Kaskaskia in the last match of the day at 4:45 p.m.
