Split Weekend for Ancilla Soccer
 September 16, 2013

LIVONIA, MI- The Chargers soccer team beat Schoolcraft College, 2-0, on Friday, in a conference match up; however, it was a short celebration, as they faced defeat Sunday, 3-1, versus Owens Community College.

Ancilla improved their MCCAA conference record to 4-0 with a win over Schoolcraft College for the second time this season. The first goal came from Nakilee Weni, via an assist from Dominic Harris in the 13th minute. Freshman AJ Strycker hit in the second goal with a curling shot into the top corner in the 48th minute. Chargers’ defense played strong to maintain that lead.

Adam Hall, Ancilla coach, indicated "Great performance levels today, but the game lost its quality due to the intensity of players. We did well to stay focused and get the job done today."

Two days later, after a loss to Owens Community College, Coach Hall commented, "Today was a tough lesson for my players. We had the majority of possession and chances but simple mistakes lost us the game.”

Ancilla started out by initially taking the lead. The first goal came in ten minutes from Andrew Smith who hit a free kick into the top left-hand corner after Nick Bennett was fouled on the edge of the box. The game was tied in the 35th minute when Owens hit a free kick off the post and rebounded out for a simple tap in. During the 2nd half there were 3 Red Cards issued, 2 to Owens and 1 to Ancilla's Isaias Morales.  Chargers then went for the attack to equalize the score and were hit on the counter to go 3-1 down.

"I hope we can learn from our mistakes and wake up for our next game against Muskegon,” remarked Coach Hall.

The Chargers soccer team will host conference opponent, Muskegon Community College, Wednesday, September 18, at 4:00 p.m.

Ancilla College, a part of The Center at Donaldson, enrolls just under 500 students in 18 Associate’s Degree programs. Founded by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in 1937, Ancilla is located 2 miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth, Indiana.
