#4 Panthers Beat #7 Genesee, 4-1
DRYDEN, N.Y. – Saturday’s matchup of top ten teams ended with the #4-ranked Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer posting an impressive 4-1 win over #7-Genesee Community College Saturday. The Panthers are now 5-0-1 on the year while Genesee falls to 1-2.
The tone for the game was set early, with Yauhen Malko (James Madison H.S./Brooklyn) blasting a direct kick from just outside the box past the Genesee defense into the net for the 1-0 lead just ten minutes in. Twenty minutes later, TC3 benefitted from some bad luck for the visitors. Andras Tozser (Homer H.S./.Homer) played a long ball toward the goal, and when the Genesee keeper and defender collided, Morgan Shutter (Odessa-Montour H.S./Alpine) was left alone to slide it in for the goal. Genesee got on the board a few minutes later, but TC3 answered with a goal by Rob Licciardi (North Babylon H.S./North Babylon) with 7:11 left in the first half. The Panthers took the 3-1 lead into the second half, and after misfiring on several chances, finally stretched the score to 4-1 in the 62nd minute when Sean Streb (Lansing H.S./Lansing) scored off a corner kick.
McZiggy Richards (School for Human Rights H.S./Brooklyn) earned the win in goal with two saves.
