 September 14, 2013

LUBBOCK – Texan freshman Antibahs Kibiwott raced ahead of the pack Friday afternoon during the Red Raider Open, running side by side with Texas Tech senior and defending NCAA cross country champion Kennedy Kithuka during the opening phases of the race.

Jose Martinez was South Plains’ next competitor to cross the line and also posted a top 10 finish.  Martinez was ninth overall in 26:49.59.

Colton Hollis (27:18.15), Cordaryl Whitehead (27:23.97), and Jacob Clark (28:02.00) rounded out the Texan team score of 81 points to finish fourth in the meet.

In the women’s 5,000-meter race, J’Cee Holmes was the first Lady Texan to cross the line, finishing 31st overall and posting a time of 21:34.78.  Kaitlyn Henderson (21:54.38) was not far behind in 37th.

The SPC women finished eighth in the team scoring with 215 points.
