RAYMOND – Beau Wallace, a sophomore infielder on the Hinds Community College baseball team, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 12th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.

Wallace, a Vicksburg native, was the 359th overall pick. His development was evident at Hinds, as he was not drafted out of high school.

He was named to the 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American third team after hitting .387 on the season with seven doubles, one triple and three home runs. He had 37 RBI, 10 stolen bases and scored 41 runs, all while walking 17 times and being hit by a pitch 16 times.

Wallace was also named to the All-Region and All-State first team at the conclusion of the regular season.

In 2013, Wallace was named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State second team after leading the Eagles in several offensive categories, including at-bats (137), triples (four), home runs (four), RBI (33), runs (40), hit by pitches (tie with 10), base on balls (17) and slugging percentage (.533).

For his success on the field, he earned Best Offensive Player honors at Hinds after both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Wallace also had a successful summer in the Midwest Collegiate League in 2012, where he was named to the MCL All-Star team as part of the DeKalb County (Ill.) Liners. He hit .327 with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI in 101 at-bats and was a perfect seven-for-seven in stolen bases.
