JCJC's Dykes shoots 79 in first round of NJCAA DII Tourney

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – Jones County Junior College sophomore Branning Dykes shot a 7-over par 79 in the opening round of the NJCAA Division II Golf Tournament here Tuesday at Goose Pond Colony.

Dykes, a sophomore from Richton, is scheduled to tee off at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday for round two.

David Keenan of Parkland Community College (Ill.) is first with a 6-under par 66, while Co-Lin’s Corbin May, Matt Schlueter of Black Hawk Community College (Ill.) and Steve Souchek of John A. Logan Community College (Ill.) are tied for second at 3-under par 69.

South Mountain Community College (Ariz.) leads as a team with a 284, while Black Hawk is second at 285 and Mississippi Gulf Coast is third at 291.

The tournament will conclude on Friday.
