ST. GEORGE, Utah – Second-seeded Salt Lake (UT) CC rode a dominant pitching performance from Kailey Christensen to force a second national championship game as the Bruins blanked #8-seed Wallace State (AL) CC, 8-0, at the 2013 NJCAA Division I Women's Softball National Championship tournament Saturday afternoon at the Canyons Complex.
Christensen fanned three and held Wallace State to just four hits in the complete game shutout. Meanwhile, the Bruin offense gave the freshman hurler all the runs she would need early, scoring a run in the first inning, two more in the second on a Malia Campos two-run single, and two more tallies in the third on a Whitney Holt two-RBI homer in taking a 5-0 lead. Salt Lake then put the game out of reach in the fourth as Bruin catcher Susan Duke cleared the bases with a three-run base hit to extend the advantage to 8-0.
Wallace State starter BreeAnna Blevins suffered the loss after being relieved in the first inning after forcing in a run on consecutive illegal pitch calls.
