EC Golfers Finish Third in Region 23 Tourney

Sophomore Shelby Patterson of Forest posted rounds of 74 and 78 for a 152 total and led East Central Community College to a third-place finish in the NJCAA Region 23, Division II Championship held April 22-23 at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Choctaw.

Patterson was among five golfers who received All-Region 23 honors and qualified for the NJCAA Division II National Championship scheduled May 21-24 at the Goose Pond Colony Golf Club in Scottsboro, Ala.

The Warrior golf team carded a 634 (312-322) in the 36-hole competition, won by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s 615 (311-304) total. Copiah-Lincoln finished second at 631 (324-307); Northwest was fourth at 637 (329-308); and East Mississippi placed fifth at 639 (323-316).

Corbin May of Copiah-Lincoln Community College won medalist honors with a four-under par 140 (73-67) and joins Branning Dykes (149) of Jones County, Jake Pritchard (151) of Gulf Coast; Miles Respess (152) of East Mississippi and Patterson on the All-Region 23 Team and a berth in the national competition.

In addition to Patterson, other EC golfers and their respective scores include Newton County High School product Lee McDill, 155 (74-81); Sawyer Williams of Parkers Chapel in Eldorado, Ark., 165 (83-82); Taylor York of Choctaw Central, 166 (85-81); and Aaron Tucker of Leake Central, 167 (81-86).
