#7 MGCCC secures MACJC South Division Crown

PERKINSTON---Sophomore Day was also a coronation for the No. 7 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College as the Lady Bulldogs swept Southwest and locked up the team’s second MACJC South Division title in the last three years.

Gulf Coast (31-8, 20-4) won game one 5-2 behind 11 strikeouts from sophomore Reina Baluja, the current MACJC Pitcher of the Week. Baluja also contributed at the plate with an RBI double while Brooke Gaston had three hits including two doubles. Sophomore Lea Kittrell had two hits and stole two bases in the win.

The Lady Bulldogs completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in game two. Baluja earned another win in the circle while Gaston’s two run single and a two run triple by Emily Davis were the team’s offensive highlights.
Gulf Coast now hosts the MACJC Tournament at Ross-Smith Field in Perkinston May 2-4.
