6th-ranked Lady Bobcats post impressive sweep at East CentralApril 24, 2013
DECATUR – The 6th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats had two impressive road wins here Tuesday afternoon.
In game one, Samantha Buller tossed a one-hit shutout as the Lady Bobcats defeated East Central, 6-0. In game two, the Lady Bobcats scored seven runs in the fourth inning en route to a 10-1, five-inning decision.
JCJC is now 34-6 overall, 17-5 in the MACJC South Division. The Lady Bobcats have clinched second place in the division behind Mississippi Gulf Coast, who has ended league play at 20-4.
MGCCC will serve as the host for the MACJC State Tournament May 2-3. The Lady Bobcats will face the No. 3 team from the North on May 2. It will be an eight-team, single elimination tournament.
The Lady Bobcats closer the regular season with a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Co-Lin. East Central visits Pearl River on Saturday.
Lady Bobcats 6, Lady Warriors 0
Buller gave up a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning to LaJoya Griffin, but that was it. She walked a batter and had three strikeouts.
Offensively, Makenzie Hawkins slugged a pair of solo home runs to lead the Lady Bobcats. She now has eight home runs on the season. She also added a single.
Bethany Volking and Rebecca Dunn had two singles each, while Karley Crosby, Brooke David, Reagan Gavin and Kalyn McNabb added singles.
Tenna Patterson went the distance and took the loss for ECCC. She allowed six runs (four earned), 11 hits, walked five and had no strikeouts.
JCJC led 1-0 after two, 2-0 after four, 3-0 after five and 6-0 after six.
Lady Bobcats 10, Lady Warriors 1
Crosby belted her 13th home run of the season – a three-run shot – during the fourth inning to help JCJC to the win. Crosby also had a single.
Volking doubled twice and singled, while Dunn tripled and singled. CC Lawn and Relanda McFarland each singled twice, while Hawkins and McNabb added singles.
Buller was the starter and winner, upping her record to 20-2. She went two innings, allowed one run, four hits and recorded a strikeout. Michele Hester went the final three innings and was credited with a save. She gave up no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out one.
JCJC led 1-0 after one and the game was tied 1-1 after two. The Lady Bobcats were up 3-1 after three.
Ty Buckley singled twice for ECCC, while Griffin tripled and Kristin Chipley doubled. Hayley Stephens and Dakota Vowell added singles.
Mary Sanders went the distance and took the loss. She allowed 10 runs, 13 hits and walked three.
