JCJC's Dykes finishes second in Region 23 Tourney

PHILADELPHIA – Jones County Junior College’s Branning Dykes finished second in the Region 23 Golf Tournament here Tuesday at the Dancing Rabbit-Azalea Course.

Dykes, a sophomore from Richton, fired a 79 in round two to go with an opening round of 70 for a 5-over par, 149.

Co-Lin’s Corbin May was the tournament medalist. He blistered the course on Tuesday, shooting a 5-under par 67 to give him a two-day total of 140 and win the tournament by nine strokes. The 67 that May posted was eight shots better than anyone else in round two.

Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Jake Pritchard was third with a 76-75 – 151.

MGCCC won its sixth straight regional title as a team.

The Bulldogs shot a 304 on Tuesday to give them a two-day total of 615. Co-Lin, the MACJC state champion, was second with a 631.

The NJCAA Division II National Tournament will be played May 21-23 at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro, Ala.
