ECCC/Southwest Split Softball Twin Bill

After claiming a 5-1 victory in the opener, East Central Community College’s fast-pitch softball team was unable to complete the doubleheader sweep and fell 2-1 in the second contest with Southwest Mississippi Community College Thursday, March 23 on the Decatur campus.

Ty Buckley and LaJoya Griffin had two hits and an RBI each to lead the EC offense in the first game. Buckley belted a double and single and Griffin slapped two singles. Buckley is a product of Neshoba Central High School and Griffin hails from Philadelphia High School.

Other hitters were Morgan Porter of Enterprise and Marlee Massey of Neshoba Central, doubles each; and Amber McBroom of Brandon, A.J. Peeler of Neshoba Central and Dakota Vowell of Neshoba Central, singles each. Peeler and Porter each knocked in a run.

Runs were scored by Griffin, Peeler, Porter, Massey and Kaylin Hopkins of Louisville.

Tenna Patterson went the distance in recording the win. Patterson allowed one earned run on four hits through seven innings. She also fanned three batters and walked three. Patterson is a product of Lexington (Ala.) High School.

EC’s offense was stymied in the second contest, as only two hits were registered – a double by Peeler and a single by Lindsey Beard of Clarkdale. Beard also scored the lone run.

Mary Sanders of Vidalia, La., took the loss, as the Adams County Christian School product allowed two earned runs on four hits through 4 2/3 innings. She also fanned a batter and walked three.

Patterson hurled the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed one hit.

The Lady Diamond Warriors, now 21-9 overall and 5-5 in the MACJC South Division, battle Pearl River Community College Wednesday, April 3. The twin bill gets under way at 3 p.m. on the Decatur campus.

EC hosts Copiah-Lincoln Community College Saturday, April 6, beginning at 1 p.m.
