BOONEVILLE, Miss. –  Good Friday was certainly good for the Northeast Mississippi Community College’s baseball team’s offense.

Northeast (16-10) pounded out 20 runs and 25 hits in a split with Copiah-Lincoln on Friday, March 29.

Copiah-Lincoln captured the opener 14-10 as both squads pushed 26 combined hits across the board while the Tigers bounced back with a 10-7 showing in the nightcap with a dozen hits in the win.

In the opener, Northeast tallied all of its runs in the third through sixth inning with the Tigers picking up seven runs in the third and fourth frames and capping their scoring with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

After seeing Northeast rally from a 3-0 deficit with four runs in the third, Copiah-Lincoln bounced back with a six-run fourth and a lead it would never relinquish.

Copiah-Lincoln added a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings before tacking on an insurance run in the seventh.

Falkner’s Will Robertson and Mantachie’s Chance Cooley paced the Tigers in the opener with three hits apiece while New Albany’s Easton Hall and Booneville’s Tre Welch each had a pair of hits in the 13-hit barrage.

In the nightcap, Northeast jumped out to a 7-3 lead after the first two frames and never looked back in picking up its sixteenth win of the year.

Northeast tallied four runs in the first and tacked on three in the second to break open a 4-3 game early.

Kent Farris’ crew pushed its lead to 10-3 in the fourth after the Tigers continued to find their offensive rhythm with a three-run frame before Copiah-Lincoln answered with a four-run sixth.

In the win, Northeast pushed a dozen hits across the board led by Alcorn Central’s Jake Beck and New Albany’s Drew Wray.

Beck and Wray both had a double and single in the win for the Tigers while DeSoto Central’s Dalton Sims and Hall collected a pair of base knocks in the contest as well.

Kossuth’s Heath Wood legged out a triple in the three-run decision while Welch had a double for the Tigers.

Northeast Mississippi steps back into North Division action as the Tigers travel to Moorhead to play the Trojans of Mississippi Delta on Tuesday, April 2. First pitch for the North Division doubleheader is set for noon.
