Bobcat tennis teams sweep Holmes

GOODMAN – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams swept Holmes Community College here Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Bobcats blanked HCC, 9-0, while the JCJC men’s team won 7-2. The Lady Bobcats are now 6-2, while the men’s team is 4-4.

JCJC will host Copiah-Lincoln at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.

Lady Bobcats 9, Lady Bulldogs 0

In No. 1 doubles, Alicia Domoney and Stephanie Smith defeated Rebecca Shields and Elizabeth Petro, 8-1, and Elizabeth Wright and Carly Stuart beat Halley Harrison and Akia Cabella, 8-1.  JCJC won No. 3 doubles by default.

Domoney beat Shields, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 1 singles and Smith defeated Petro, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Brooke Martin defeated Harrison, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 3 singles, Aja White blanked Cabella, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 4 singles and Wright blanked Callie Swinney, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 5 singles. JCJC won No. 6 singles by default.

Bobcats 7, Bulldogs 2

JCJC swept the doubles matches.

Josh Lomas and Tanner Chamblee beat Darryl Hale and Chase Black, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles. Ryan Young and Harrison Thomas defeated Rami Jamileh and Conner Wilson, 8-4, in No. 2 doubles and in No. 3 doubles, Caleb Byrd and Jonathan Jones downed Mitchell Parkman and Grey Tedford, 8-3.

Young defeated Black, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 3 singles, Byrd whipped Wilson, 6-4, 6-0, in No. 4 singles, Luke Holston edged Parkman, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5, in No. 5 singles and Daniel Sullivan beat Tedford, 6-2, 7-5, in No. 6 singles.

Lomas fell to Hale, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles and Chamblee lost to Jamileh, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 2 singles.
