Shelton State Claims 6-3 Victory over EC Diamond Warriors

East Central Community College’s Diamond Warriors fell 6-3 to Shelton State Community College held Wednesday, Feb. 20 in the Decatur campus.

The visitors from Tuscaloosa grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning and maintained its advantage throughout the nine-inning contest held at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex.

EC cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second and trailed 5-3 after six innings but could get no closer as the Buccaneers held on for the win.

Tim Anderson led the Diamond Warrior offense with a double and a single. He also knocked in a run. Anderson is a product of Hillcrest High School High School in Tuscaloosa.

Other hitters were Zach May of Newton County, single and RBI; and Maxwell Harmon of Enterprise and Caleb McKee of Neshoba Central, singles each.

Runs were scored by May, Xavier Franklin of Newton County and Kalik May of Tuscaloosa County.

Starter Ty Hendrix took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits through 3 2/3 innings. He fanned two batters and walked three. Hendrix is a product of East Webster High School.

EC was scheduled to play Lawson State Community College following Shelton State but the game was cancelled.

The Diamond Warriors host Kaskaskia (Illinois) Community College in a nine-inning matchup beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Clark/Gay Complex.

EC battles Pensacola Community College Tuesday, Feb. 26 in doubleheader action beginning at 2 p.m. on the Pensacola campus.

East Central’s baseball program is led by head coach Neal Holliman and assistants Justin Brewer and Jack Edmonson.
