VU victory over John A. Logan secures top seed in NJCAA District 16 Tournament

Delaney joins 1,000 Point Club during 26th win of season
CARTERVILLE, Ill. – The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team secured the top seed in next month’s NJCAA District 16 Tournament by defeating John A. Logan Wednesday night, 81-69, in Carterville, IL.
The win also included sophomore Deshawn Delaney reaching the 1,000 point mark in his VU career. Delaney is the 36th Trailblazer to achieve that honor.
On Wednesday night, sophomore Darius Carter led VU (26-2) in scoring with 23 points. Sophomore Monte Burney had 17 and Delaney and freshman Devin Foster and Paul Knapp all had eight points each.
Freshman James Williams had a game-high 24 for the host Volunteers (16-10).
VU will return home to host Southwestern Illinois on Saturday in a men’s/women’s doubleheader that will be Sophomore Night for Trailblazers Michael Bradley, Burney, Carter, Tyran de Lattibeaudiere, Delaney, Lamine Dieng, Jerrod Gaston, Damarius Smith and Jeremiah Williams. The night starts with the VU women taking on the Blue Storm at 5 p.m. and the men will follow at about 7 p.m.
Locking up the top seed in the District 16 Tournament means VU will play the first game at 12 p.m. Noon on Wednesday, March 6 at Rend Lake College in Ina, IL, after three March 4 play-in games involving the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th seeds. The Trailblazers’ first game will be against the winner of the No. 8 vs. No. 9 play-in game.
The semi-final games will be at 6 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, and the championship game will be the following night at 7 p.m.
