Overtime Win for TC3 Women

Panthers Beat Conference's #3 Team 51-47
DRYDEN, N.Y. – A game that featured 12 lead changes and ten ties ended with the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team earning a big overtime win over Jefferson Community College Wednesday, 51-47. The win improves the fourth-place Panthers to 4-4 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, just a game behind third-place Jefferson. TC3 is now 6-12 overall. Jefferson is 5-3 in the MSAC and 9-12 overall.
The game was back-and-forth from the start. The largest lead of the first 20 minutes was four points and the score was deadlocked at 17-17 at the break. In the second half, TC3 led 24-21 before Jefferson went on a 10-2 run the take the lead at 31-26. TC3 cut it back to three at 31-28 before Jefferson scored five of the next six points to take the biggest lead of the game at 36-29 with 4:57 left on the clock. A quick rally of a Chelsy Kern (Candor H.S./Candor) layup, a free throw from Chelsi Rosa (Bainebridge-Guilford H.S./Bainbridge), and a three-pointer by Becca Holton Tomasdottir (Cape Fear Academy (N.C.)/Reykjavik, Iceland) made it a one-point game at 36-35 with four minutes left. A pair of Jefferson free throws made it 38-35 a minute later before another three-pointer by Holton Tomasdottir tied it up at 38-38 with 1:58 left. Jefferson regained the lead at 40-38 with 1:20 left. On the next possession, TC3 came up with two offensive rebounds, extending the possession until Kern could hit another buck, tying the score at 40-40. The teams traded turnovers over the final seconds, leaving the score knotted at 40-40 at the end of regulation.
Jefferson jumped ahead in overtime. The Cannoneers led 44-41 early and 47-45 with two minutes left. Two free throws by Nicole Goodwin (Newfield H.S./Newfield) tied the score at 47-47 with 1:54 left and an old-fashion three-point play from Meghan Ideman (Moravia H.S./Moravia) gave TC3 the lead at 50-47 with 1:04 left. Jefferson missed a pair of free throws seconds later, and the two teams traded missed baskets before Ideman was fouled and sank one of two from the line with 1.8 seconds left to seal the win.
Holton Tomasdottir and Ideman each had 12 points for the winners, with Holton Tomasdottir adding eight rebounds, two steals, and two assists while Ideman grabbed five boards and handed out two assists. Goodwin had a big game with 10 points, seven rebounds, six blocked shots, and three assists. Audrey Kate Ordway (Dryden H.S./Dryden) led the team on the glass with 15 rebounds while also dishing out three assists and swiping three steals.
TC3 is back home Saturday to take on Broome Community College at 2 p.m.
