A 13-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half by visiting Mineral Area Wednesday night blew open a close game and the Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team dropped a 79-67 decision after chipping away at the lead some throughout the late going.
The run by the Cardinals put Mineral Area up 50-37 and the Trailblazers (8-14) were never able to catch up as the Cardinals hit five of their 11 3-pointers and hit all seven free throw attempts in the second 20 minutes of play.
Freshman Chelsea Jellison had 16 points to pace VU. Sophomore Zhanna Chukhrii had 13 and freshman Ashley Hawkins scored 12. Chukhrii had three treys while Jellison and sophomore Monique Jones-Murphy had two each. Sophomore Chelsea Pannier scored a game-high 25 for Mineral Area. She had six of the Cardinals' 3-pointers.
The Trailblazers will travel to Cincinnati State on Saturday and then have a week with no games until playing at Olney Central as part of a men's and women's doubleheader on Feb. 9.
