 January 29, 2013

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Walters State Senators rebounded from a disappointing outing in a home loss on Sunday with their best shooting effort of the season Tuesday in a 99-75 road won over the King College JV team in Bristol.

The Senators shot 63.8 percent (44 of 69) from the field in the win, including a blazing 70.2 percent (40 of 57) inside the 3-point line. They committed only seven turnovers, and they got 45 points from the reserves to even their record at 11-11 on the season.

Walters State rolled to a 50-40 halftime lead by making 21 of 34 shots (61.8 percent) compared to 41.2 percent (14 of 34) from the Tornado.

The Senators shot even better in the final 20 minutes, dropping in 65.7 percent (23 of 35) of their shots and outscoring King 49-35 in the half.

The Tornado had no answer for the Walters State trio of Cameron High, Leland Robinson and Darius White, as they combined for 44 points in the win.

High led the Senators with 16 points, while Robinson added 15 and White chipped in 13. Denard Williams also tossed in nine points and Jeff Simpson tallied eight in the win.

The Senators will be back in action Friday when they travel to West Tennessee to take on Tennessee Community College Athletic Association rival Jackson State. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
