Second half run propels VU Women's Basketball to 77-58 win over Southeastern Illinois

The Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team used a 20-2 tear to start the second half Saturday night to take control and improve to 8-12 on the season with a 77-58 win over Southeastern Illinois.

Freshman Ashley Hawkins and sophomore Zhanna Chukhrii both had 15 points to lead VU, while freshman Shelby Parmer scored 13, sophomore Taylor Hawkins finished with 11 and freshman Chelsea Jellison had 10.

Taylor Hawkins pulled down nine rebounds and blocked five shots while Ashley Hawkins had six boards. Parmer added 10 assists and three steals.Parmer, Chukhrii and Jellison each had three treys.

The Trailblazers went to halftime with a 42-34 advantage and returned after the half to score the first seven points on the way to the 20-2 rampage that provided a 62-36 lead with less than 12:00 to play. From there, VU cruised to the win.

VU will travel to Owens in Perrysburg, OH, on Monday and then return home Wednesday to play Mineral Area at 5 p.m. That game will precede the VU men hosting Lewis & Clark at about 7 p.m.
