CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. --- Playing the position of point guard certainly has its share of responsibilities, not the least of which involves running a team’s offense with efficiency and making wise decisions with the basketball.

Occassionally, a contribution to the scoring column is needed as well.

Prairie State College sophomore point guard Tim Hardy (Thornridge H.S.) takes all of these responsibilities seriously and Tuesday it was his turn to do some scoring.

So he did.

The 5-foot-9 Hardy cashed in a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, leading the Pioneers to a commanding 91-61 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference triumph over McHenry.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to 12-8 overall and 2-2 in league play.

The Pioneers placed five scorers in double figures as freshman forward Joe Hughes (Thornwood H.S.), (18 points, 13 rebounds), freshman forward Tommy Green (Thornridge H.S., (14 points, 7 rebounds) , sophomore forward DeMarques Heard (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), (13 points, 10 rebounds) and freshman guard Geray Bagby (Thornridge H.S.), (10 points, 4 rebounds) all achieved the feat.

For the 6-foot-5 Hughes, Tuesday marked his 19th consecutive contest of scoring in double figures. It was also his fifth double-double of the slate. Hughes’ 18.3 points per game are good for 13th on the national list while his 670 minutes played are the second most in the nation.

Heard’s efforts also allowed him to attain his first double-double of the season.

While PSC’s margin of victory in the end was wide, it almost certainly was not in the first half as the Pioneers went to the locker room on the front side of a 38-25 lead.
