Trailblazers take control to start 2nd half and finish off John A. Logan, 76-65
January 20, 2013
The Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team scored the first eight points of the second half Saturday night to grab control of its game with visiting John A. Logan and then maintained a lead of about 10 points throughout the second 20 minutes en route to a 76-65 win.
The victory kept fourth-ranked VU unbeaten at 18-0 on the season.
Sophomore Deshawn Delaney scored 14 of his 19 points to lead the Trailblazers. Sophomore Monte Burney had 15 and sophomore Darius Carter scored 11.
Sophomore Aaron Adeoye scored a game-high 27 - 20 in the second half - for the Volunteers.
The decisive outburst to open the second half for VU started with sophomore Jeremiah Williams knocking down a trey. Burney added a 3-pointer and Delaney scored from inside the arc. The eight unanswered points broke a 28-28 tie and put VU out front 36-28 before John A. Logan could call timeout to try to stop the Trailblazers' momentum.
VU hit 16-of-20 free throws in the second half as the Volunteers were whistled for 19 fouls after intermission. The Trailblazers' overall 22-for-29 performance at the stripe for the game helped offset John A. Logan's 20-for-21 effort at the line. Adeoye was 10-for-11, individually, at the free throw line. Burney was 7-for-11 and sophomore Jerrod Gaston went 5-for-6 at the line in the second half.
The Trailblazers also kept their turnover total to single digits for the night.
