ULLIN, Ill. - The NJCAA No. 4 Vincennes Trailblazers remained unbeaten with a 62-45 win Wednesday night at Shawnee as VU pulled away from a two-point halftime lead by scoring the first eight points of the second half.
Sophomore Monte Burney led the Trailblazers with 17 points and sophomore Darius Carter finished with 16. Sophomore Deshawn Delaney was also in double figures with 10 points as VU moved to 17-0 on the season and 7-0 against NJCAA Region 24 competition.
The Trailblazers came out of the locker room for the second half and got a great start as Burney and freshman Loomis Gerring hit treys, with a Saints turnover in between, in the opening seconds of the second 20 minutes. A short time later, sophomore Jeremiah Williams hit a jumper to give VU its first double-digit lead at 32-22.
Shawnee had a six-point run of its own, but that was the final flurry for the Saints and the Trailblazers finished it off from there.
VU will host John A. Logan at 7 p.m. Saturday at the VU P.E. Complex. The Trailblazers will then head to Southwestern Illinois in Belleville, IL, on Monday for a men's and women's doubleheader.
