No. 8 Lady Senators record 91-point road win

PENDLETON, S.C. – The eighth ranked Walters State Lady Senators showed no rust from a 24-day layoff Wednesday when they played their opening game of 2013, shooting better than 64 percent from the field in a 114-23 rout of Tri-County Technical College.
The Lady Senators (13-1) had eight players score at least eight points in the win, with freshman Bre Hall scoring a career high 26 points.

Walters State dished out 36 assists, including 10 from freshman point guard Karly Frye, and they recorded a 48-8 margin on the boards, including 20 offensive rebounds and 10 boards from sophomore Caprisha Rogers.

Walters State never trailed in the contest, and they held a 28-3 lead midway through the first half before taking a 55-11 lead at halftime. The lead increased to 85-18 with 10 minutes left before the Lady Senators closed the game on a 29-5 run.

Walters State shot 64.9 percent (50 of 77) from the field in the win, including 55.6 percent (10 of 18) from behind the 3-point line.

The Lady Senators also forced 26 turnovers, which doubled their 13 turnovers on offense, and they scored 34 turnovers off of the miscues. Included in the 26 turnovers were 17 steals, with Hall, MiShannon Wilbanks and Donnesha Shuler having three swipes each.

Tangela Crenshaw added 16 points for Walters State, while Wilbanks had 15, Shuler, Jasmine McAllister and Monashia Bolduc had 10 points each. Gaby Gilmore added nine and Nakeisha Tucker tallied eight in the win.

Tri-County Tech (1-8) shot only 16.7 percent (6 of 36) from the field in the loss. Tiara Cox led the Lady Hawks with 12 points.

The Lady Senators will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Spartanburg Methodist College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
